Labour Party, LP, Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the electorate to vote the Candidate that would change the fortunes of the Nation with the citizens enjoying the dividends of democracy rather than voting for symbols such as Brooms and Umbrellas.
The former Anambra State who indirectly took a swipe at the All Progressives Congress, APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Candidates, includes Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar whose Party symbols are broom and umbrella, respectively.
Obi told the mammoth crowd at the Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, in Lagos during his Presidential Campaign Rally to change the narratives from the past whereby people voted for “brooms and umbrellas” but failed woefully.
He stressed that it was time to vote for human beings to change the fortunes of the nation.
He said: “You voted for the PDP, the umbrella in it has put you into poverty. You voted for the broom, they swept you to poverty.”
He added that the level of poverty in Nigeria has increased in recent times. He noted the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, Report that in November 2022 disclosed that 133 million Nigerians were multidimensionally poor.
In its National Multidimensional Poverty Index Report, the NBS said that 63 per cent of Nigerians were poor due to a lack of access to health, education, and living standards, alongside unemployment and shocks.
In view of this, Obi said, “You voted for broom, it didn’t work, you voted for umbrella, it didn’t work, we now want you to vote for human beings.”
