Niger: Police Detains Nursing Student Over Lecturer’s Death After Meal In Her House

The Niger State Police Command is probing how a meal of spaghetti and egg led to the death of a University lecturer.

Already, a nursing student, Stella Joseph, that served food to the deceased lecturer, has been detained.

The lecturer Engr. Dr. Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede, until his demise, worked at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida and Newgate, University.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, “on January 27, 2026 at about 10:00 a.m., Engr. Dr. Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede of the Federal Polytechnic Bida visited Stella Joseph, a student of the Niger State School of Nursing and Midwifery, Tunga, Minna, to introduce himself as the new lecturer at the university.

“During the visit, the suspect was served spaghetti and egg by the student. After the meal, he began convulsing and collapsed,” the source said.

The DPO of Tudun-Wada Division immediately led a team of policemen to the scene. The victim was rushed to General Hospital, Minna, but was confirmed dead on arrival.

The corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The suspect has been taken into custody, and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
