While the Police and other security agencies are still battling to unmask those behind the Nibo, Nodu and Ifite massacres in Anambra State, one of the Concerned communities Ezinano, has placed a bounty of N10 Million on the heads of the perpetrators.
The Source reports that some yet-to-be identified gunmen had on Sunday October 20, 2024, killed about eleven persons in the Nibo and Nodu communities in the Awka South Local Council of Anambra State.
The gunmen who preliminary findings said were members of a rival cult gang stormed the communities during their new yam festival, encircled an eatery, and gunned down eight persons first in Nibo, before proceeding to Nodu where another three were killed.
Four days later, another set of gunmen, also identified as cultist group, invaded Ifite, by UniZik gate, also, in Awka South Council, and killed nine people.
The Anambra State Police Command has since launched a manhunt for the assailants, with the Anambra State Government promising a handsome reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the killers.
At an empowerment programme on Saturday November , 2, 2024, the leader of Ezinano Community in Awka South ,Chief Jeff Nweke, informed that a reward of N10 million will be given to any person or group that volunteers information that could lead to the apprehension of the gunmen.
“We are donating the sum of N10 million to help the Police, and other security agencies arrest the killers of over 20 persons in Nibo and Ifite communities.
“The money will go to anyone or group that will give the police and other security agencies useful information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly acts” Nweke stated.
Similarly, he announced the donation of another N50 million, as part of his contributions towards empowering the less privileged, particularly women and youth, for the purposes of skill acquisitions and improvement of their agricultural activities.
He lamented the erosion of societal values, and high level of moral decadence especially among the youths.
Nweke appealed to parents to always pay attention to the moral and general upbringing of their children as a veritable way of reducing crime and criminal activities in the society
He expressed deep concern over the spate of violent criminal activities, and killings in the State of late.
He urged the police and other security agencies to work in concert with the various communities to fish out. and prosecute those behind the spate of killings.
