New APC Chairman: Why I Will Make Tough Decisions Like Tinubu

Few hours after becoming the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Nentawe Yilwada has unveiled his plans for the party.

The APC chairman said he will follow in the footsteps of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by making tough decisions, based on consensus by the leadership of the party.

Yilwada spoke on Channels Television Programme Politics Today barely few hours after President Tinubu and 20 APC governors, agreed by consensus, to appoint him the party’s chairman. His appointment, the magazine reports comes a few weeks after , Abdullahi Ganduje, his predecessor, resigned voluntarily from the position.

The APC chairman who said the governors ‘endorsed “ him to be in the position said he will manage the affairs of the party based on consensus building.

“You consult, you discuss, because that is what politics is all about,” he said.

He had earlier declared in his acceptance speech to the leadership of the party in Abuja, the nation’s capital that he will work in line with “the dream of Nigerians who have reposed their hope in the renewed hope agenda” of the ruling APC.

 

He said, “Let me express my profound gratitude to God and the leadership of the party, from the President, to the Governors, and the National Assembly members, all members of NEC, for reposing this big burden and trust also in me to lead the party at this juncture.

“Let me thank you also for picking me among millions of members of this party, and that the party will see me good enough and responsible enough to take this party to the next level.

“I do not take this mandate for granted. I want to accept it with gratitude and with my full heart and with my full mind to work together with you, to build the party; knowing that all of us here are the mechanics of the party and the party is our vehicle and we’ll fix it and move it to our destination of choice.

“I pledge without hesitation that I will work with everybody in the party, unite the party, build the party, expand party with you as the focus and the building block and the support I will require to drive the party as needed by all of us so that we can fulfil the dream of Nigerians who have reposed their hope in the renewed hope agenda.

“Lastly, I will trust and look up to the leadership of the party, members of the party and all of you seated here for us to fulfil the dreams that Nigerians have of APC.”

Yilwada, until his appointment as the chairman of the ruling party in the country was the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

His appointment was ratified at Thursday’s APC NEC meeting held at the State House, Abuja.

He was, until his latest appointment, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
