The National Examinations Council (NECO) has clamped a ban on one school in Ekiti state with 21 supervisors in 12 states sanctioned for mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject during the last June/July examination.
This was announced on Thursday just as the Council released the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) internal results.
The NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof Dantani Wushishi, made this known while briefing journalists in Minna during the release of the 2024 SSCE internal results.
The name of the affected school and status whether publicly owned or private was not disclosed by the Registrar.
NECO’s sanction is coming just as several students that sat for the May/June final examination conducted by the West African Examinations Council, (WAEC) are yet to get their results almost two months after release.
WAEC had announced that the seized results are being investigation for malpractices during the examination.
According to NECO scribe, the Supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting, abscondment, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence.
He disclosed that: “40 schools were found to have been involved in whole-school mass cheating in 17 states, adding that the schools will be invited to the council for discussion after which appropriate sanctions will be applied.”
