Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has flayed Peter Obi’s reaction on the call by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Nigerians and other well-wishers wishing to celebrate her 65th birthday, to donate to the completion of the National Library.
Obi had while reacting to the First lady’s demand said “we’re finished” saying it’s the duty of the government to do such project.
The magazine reports that Senator Tinubu had on Tuesday disclosed that over N20 billion has been donated by her friend and well-wishers to the project, which appears to have divided Nigerians.
While some supports the initiative, others have raised questions, for example, whether the fund will be well accounted for.
Reacting in a post he shared on X, Omokri said there’s nothing wrong in what the First Lady did, saying it’s a standard practice globally for private individuals to build National Libraries, adding that Obi failed to investigate the issue before making a public remark.
He also knocked Obi for not investing in educational projects while he was governor of Anambra state, stressing that the 2023 Labour Party Presidential candidate does not have capacity to rule the country because he’s a mere “trader” who should “open shop in Onitsha market” to be selling wares.
He described the former Anambra stase governor as a low life, whose desperation to become president has blindsided him from facing reality.
Part of what Omokri said, “Peter Obi should allow me to cure his ignorance by educating him that it is the practice worldwide for public-spirited individuals to get involved in building national libraries and other citadels for public use. This makes such vital institutions less controllable by governments, thereby maintaining their status as public institutions.
“For example, private individuals have built more public libraries in the United States than the Federal Government. A notable philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, through the Carnegie Corporation, built 2,509 libraries worldwide, 1689 of which were built in the United States,
“That Peter Obi does not know of this is further proof of my assertion that he is best suited to opening and running a market stall in Onitsha Market rather than being a leader at all”, he added
“No wonder that under Peter Obi, poverty increased in Anambra. Because the man is a trader, not a leader.
“Please fact-check me: The poverty rate in Anambra was 41.4% in 2003, before Obi took office, and rose to 53.7% by 2009, during his governorship, a 29.7% increase,” Omokri said.
