“N5 Billion Was Offered Me To Impeach Rivers Governor – Ehie, Fmr. House Majority Leader

Says he has briefed his lawyers over the criminal allegations made against him by ex-HoS, Nweke

A whopping sum of Five Billion Naira, was offered, allegedly, to a former Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, as early as October 2023, to initiate the impeachment from office of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Ehie, who was the Chief of Staff to the now suspended Fubara, was the Majority Leader of tye State House of Assembly when the political crisis began in Rivers State. The crisis was triggered by a political disagreement between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and Fubara, his estranged political godson. Wike was succeeded in office by Fubara.

Ehie’s revelation on  Channels Television, Sunday evening, was prompted by the serious, strong allegations made against him, Fubara, and others by the immediate past Head of Service under Fubara, Dr. George Nweke. Nweke had resigned a couple of days after Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, President Bola Tinubu’s Sole Administrator for the State, assumed office.

Specifically on Ehie, Nweke alleged he was present at the Government House when Fubara handed over to Ehie, a bag of money for mobilization to burn down the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. He, however, said he didn’t know how much was in the bag.

But speaking on the allegations, Ehie said nothing could be further from the truth. He then threw a bomb which exploded with the allegation that he was offered the sum of Five Billion Naira to mobilize for the impeachment of Fubara in October 2023. Even though he refrained from naming who made the offer to him, he said that in case anybody was in doubt, he has evidences of proof.

He said he has the evidence on his phone, and, for precautionary measures, in case he is killed, he disclosed he had printed same and given to some people.

His words: “I can, also open my phone to show you. In the beginning of October 2023, when they approached me with a bribe of N5 billion. It is here in my phone.

“It was for impeachment. It’s here. I have it. I have printed it and distributed it in case in their evil imagination, they decide to attack me. I already have a son and a brother.”

On the allegation that the Governor was the mastermind of the razing of the Assembly Complex and used him to execute it, Ehie dismissed it as a lie from the pit of hell. He said he woke up that morning and heard of it just like any other person. He, however, declined to speak more on that because, according to him, Nweke would need to prove it in Court as he has briefed his Lawyers.
