The handwriting was boldly written on the wall. The stargazers has predicted that the end was near for the Manchester United to part ways with their Portuguese manager.
The body language of Manchester United Chairman, David Wood, spoke volume. Immediately Mourinho substituted Ander Herrera, in their Sunday 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, Wood was disappointed as he made hand gesture towards the substitution to one of the board members beside him, showing his displeasure towards the move.
It was there and then, Manchester United fans knew Mourinho will be booted out.
Manchester United made their worst start to a season in almost 30 years, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.
The 55-year-old Portuguese’s last match in charge was the 3-1 defeat by league leaders Liverpool on Sunday which left them 19 points behind their opponents.
It is United’s worst start in the league since 1990 and even his ambition of reaching the top four and a Champions League qualification spot is in danger with the club 11 points adrift of those places.
Despite the club having reached the Champions League knockout stages — they face an intimidating last-16 tie with Paris Saint-Germain — a mix of the results, dressing-room discord and criticism of the board’s transfer policy proved potent factors in the decision to dismiss him.
“Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect,” a club statement said.
“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.
“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”
This will be the fourth time Mourinho will be sacked by a club. His first sack came in his first stint with Chelsea, where he was forced to resign or will be sacked.
When he was at Real Madrid, he was sacked by the Madrid board, having disorganised the dressing room, with players having issues with him.
He returned back to Chelsea after parting ways with Real Real Madrid. After just two and half season with Chelsea, he was shown the exit door, after having issues with some of the players in the team.
Now, he is sacked by Manchester United after just two and half season with the Manchester team. He won the UEFA Europa League, Carling Cup, and the Charity Shield with Manchester United.
