Thirty four years after its establishment, a first female Vice Chancellor has emerged for the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Umuahia, MOUAU.
She is Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa.
She was announced as the 7th Vice Chancellor of the University by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Comrade Chukwunweike Ede, shortly after the Council ratified her appointment at its 95th Meeting.
The Professor of Educational Measurement and Evaluation,who currently serves as the Deputy Vice Chancellor , Research and Development of the University will be taking over from the incumbent Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, whose five-year non-renewable tenure will come to an end on February 28,2026.
Prof Akanwa’s appointment as Vice Chancellor is coming sixteen years after joining the services of MOUAU, from the Abia State University, Uturu, in 2010 as an Associate Professor.
She rose to the rank of a full Professor in 2014.
