At least 107 people have been confirmed dead following a fatal attack on Yelewata community in Benue State.
The attack was allegedly carried out by armed herdsmen in the early hours of Saturday.
It was gathered that the attackers invaded the village at dawn, unleashing deadly violence that left dozens dead and many others wounded.
Victims include women, children, the elderly, and security officials.
Some bodies were reportedly charred beyond recognition.
Gberindyer Vanen, a Local, painted grim scenes of destruction, recounting seeing human bodies still burning in homes.
One Elder, Zege Orkwande, disclosed that 107 corpses had been found so far been found, and feared that the death toll may rise as the search continues.
Hon. Thaddeus Orkpe, a House of Representatives aspirant for Makurdi/Guma, has sent a condolence message to the Government and the affected Community, expressing deep sorrow and called for urgent action on security.
He described the attack as “senseless and brutal,” urging authorities to pursue justice for the victims and ensure protection for vulnerable communities.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident without confirming the casualty figures.
Meanwhile, the State Government is yet to issue any formal response to the attack
