Embattled Labour Party has lost one of its Senators to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Senator Kelvin Chukwu, Enugu East Senatorial District, who announced his defection on Thursday, said he took the decision because of what he described as the protracted crisis in the Party which has factionalised it into about three factions.
He informed his constituents during a town hall meeting at Amuri Community, Nkanu West Local Government Area, his home Community, thanked them for their support, and promised he would continue to serve them in every way.
He said: “The protracted crisis rocking the LP has led to the factionalisation, a development that is seriously affecting its members.”
He also alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is having the same problem, obviously, indirectly explaining why he didn’t defect to the ruling party in the State.
Chukwu’s defection has added to the list of LP’s defectors in as many months which has left the Party bleeding, and a shadow of itself compared to what it was between 2023 and early 2024.
