Looting And Vandalization Of NCC-ICT Building: Kano Lost 11,000 Jobs, Kwankwaso Laments

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Kano State, has bemoaned the monumental loss to Kano and its citizens in the vandalization and looting of the National Communication Commission NCC Powered Information Technology Centre ICT by irate participants in the EndBadGovernance protest in kano.

Addressing the media on Sunday August 4,2024 in kano, the former Commissioner for Rural Development, said the vandalization of the prized property has, in the main, cost the State and its citizens about 11,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.

The Source reports that the NCC-ICT building, a Federal Government multi- million Naira project ,was among the public institutions and private concerns that fell prey to the looting and vandalization spree that dogged the day-one of the Nationwide protest in Kano.

Reflecting on the heavy loss, Dr Iliayasu Kwankwaso, a prominent member of the Tinubu/Shetima Campaign Council during the 2023 general elections, called on the youths to always be circumspect in their actions.

According to him, youths should desist from targeting facilities put in place for their wellbeing.

“You should  desist from the destruction of property meant for your benefit, particularly the ICT building of NCC that was about to be Commission when it was vandalized.

“If it had been allowed to be put to use ,more than 11,000 persons would have benefited from it from kano.

“This is very shameful. It is a shame on us to have vandalized and destroyed that multi million Naira project .

“Let the masses understand that the president and his vice ,Kashim Shetima mean well for the people of the county” he said

The Minister for Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani,  Thursday on his official site lamented the fate that  befell the ICT edifice in  the hands of the protesters.

He had noted that the project which was one of those the previous administration could not finish before leaving office was to be commissioned in less than a week’s time.

“Sad to learn that our Digital Innovation Park in Kano state slated for launch next week to support our technical talent accelerator ( 3MTT) has been set ablaze and looted .

“Along side #3MTT, this building is set to host our buildathon holiday maker programme for secondary school kids starting next week .

“A slight setback for our journey to deepen our workforce for technology ,while creating job  opportunities for the youths. Millions of Naira down the drain”, Dr Tijani painfully wrote .
