The July 12, 2025, Chairmanship and Councillorship Election in Lagos has come and gone. Winners have even been sworn-in on Sunday July 27  by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, but aggrieved members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, are yet to come terms with this reality.

The alleged unsatisfactory outcome of the Polls, imposition of candidates,  and electoral malpractice have continued to question the exercise. On Tuesday, hundreds of aggrieved members of the Party from all 57 Local Government Areas, LGAs, and Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, staged a protest at tge Lagos State House of Assembly.

During the protest, they expressed their discontent over the elections and the roles played by some party leaders.

The protesters, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards, demanded the immediate removal of the APC Lagos State Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, and a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. James Faleke, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency. They  accused both men of  poor leadership and alleged manipulation of Party processes to the detriment of grassroot democracy.

The protesters appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other Senior APC leaders to urgently intervene in the matter, warning that unresolved grievances could deepen internal Party divisions and threaten the APC’s prospects in the 2027 General Elections in Lagos.

It was alleged that Ojelabi and Faleke were financially induced during the LG Primaries leading to imposition of Candidates as against the Peoples choice.

One of the protesters, Alhaji Talibu Lawal, from Onigbongbo LCDA said, “We are loyal members of the APC, but we are not happy with how things are going.

“The leadership at the State level is not doing well. If this continues, it will affect our chances in subsequent elections”.

Lawal further stated that Hon. Faleke has overstayed his relevance in the Party’s local political structure and should step aside to allow for fresh leadership.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, was said to be aware of the protest, as  Security Personnel were deployed to the Assembly Complex to maintain law and order, and ensured that the demonstration remained peaceful.
