The news was shocking to the teeming fans of Jangbajantis crooner, Olanrewaju Abdulganiyu Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan of his demise in the early hours of Sunday, July 11,2021
Few weeks ago, this news medium revealed that the late legendary musician was diagnosed of Cancer. Sadly, he succumbed to the cold hands of death.
Confirming the demise of Sound Sultan, his brother, Kayode Fasasi disclosed the death to the media and the general public of the family’s loss.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Multi-talented veteran singer, rapper, songwriter, Onlanrewaju Fasasi a.k.a Sound Sultan. He passed away at the age of 44 following a hard fought battle with Angoimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma.”
“He is survived by his wife, 3 children and his siblings. We, his family appreciate the utmost privacy as we come to grips with this tragic loss.”
Sound Sultan’s music career started in 1991. He has worked in different musical genres from R&B to Afrobeat, soul and Nigerian Fuji music. He released his first single “Jagbajantis” in 2000 which became a massive hit in Nigeria.
After independently releasing other singles and featuring in hit songs of other artists, he was signed by Kennis Music before moving to Naija Ninjas which he started with Baba Dee. In 2012, it was announced that Sound Sultan was made a UN Ambassador for Peace for his exemplary lifestyle and career.
The nation’s music Industry has been thrown into mourning following the loss.
Sound Sultan will be sorely missed by his teeming fans and the entire Festac area environ where he cut his teeth alongside the likes of 2Face, Ruggedman among others.
