The Babajied Sanwo-olu’s administration in Lagos state has revealed it plans to probe the recent attack on the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, IKEDC, by men of the Nigerian Airforce, NAF.
The state government made the revelation few days after the incident happened, and following trenchant criticisms from not a few Nigerians who described the behavior of military men to be totally unacceptable.
The magazine reported that the military men had last week attacked the IKEDC office in Lagos, injuring some employees and leaving in the wake of the attack destroyed property and equipment belonging to the electricity distribution company.
The attack was allegedly carried out in response to the disconnection of electricity supply to the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base due to accumulated debts.
Following the incident, the Nigerian Airforce said it has already instituted a probe to get to the root of the unruly behaviors of its men involved in the attack, but this appears not to be enough for the state government which said it will conduct its own investigations to ensure that those affected received justice in line with the law.
The state government said nobody would be allowed to resort to self help, saying that there are better ways within the law to resolve conflicts.
The state Commissioner for Energy, Biodun Ogunleye, reinforced the state government position at the week end when he paid a visit to the company.
According to him, the state government priotise the welfare of the citizens, including those working in IKEDC, and will do all within the law to ensure that residents live in a safe environment.
