Lagos: Obi Leads Tinubu With 1600 Votes

The pesidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Obi is curently leading other candidates in Lagos state, according to the official results released by the IndependentNational Electoral Commission, INEC.

Obi is ahead of his close rival Bola Ahmed Tinubu the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Unofficial results had claimed that Tinubu, a former governor of the state was leading with a wide margin.
But the results released by INEC has put a lie to that speculation, even as the electoral umpire has warned election results speculations to desist from announcing results not sanctioned by it.

The Nigerian Police Force, NPF, on Sunday day issued a strong warning to trouble makers from speculating election results bec6 it could lead to public unrest.

The Prof Mahmood Yakubu -led INEC has already released results in 17 out of 20 local governments in the state so far, which clearly showed that Obi is ahead with 1, 686 votes even though Tinubu won more local government areas.

While Tinubu has triumphed in 10 local government areas, polling a total of 447,192 votes so far, Obi is ahead in only seven local governments, but is leading the tally narrowly with 448,878 votes.

The newspaper had reported how Mr Tinubu was narrowly leading the tally after the results had been declared in 12 local government areas.

But with results declared in more local government areas, Obi caught up with him and subsequently overtook him.

The other two front-runners in the election – Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, and Rabiu Kwawanso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP – have yet to win any local government area in the state.

The INEC will resume election collation  in the state this morning after which the final results will be announced.
