The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, has urged stakeholders in the state to disregard reports that it has released the notice for the 2025 next local government election.
The Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile(rtd.)-led LASIEC said in a statement on Friday that the notice circulating on the social media is fake, and should be disregarded.
According to the statement, political parties and other stakeholders would be informed soon, when the election would be conducted in line with the enabling laws of the state.
“It has come to the attention of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) of the fake 2025 notice of elections currently circulating on social media and various online platforms, purportedly from the commission,” the commission stated.
“The commission wishes to state unequivocally that such notice of election did not emanate from the commission and hereby advises citizens, in particular, political parties and all other critical stakeholders to disregard such publications,” it added.
“The commission hereby reiterates that the conduct of local government election in Lagos State is a process that is guided by laws, and at the appropriate time as stipulated by law, the notice of election shall be published in the various Newspapers.”
The state Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi disclosed recently that the council election will be held in all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in 2025.
But the state government has yet to disclose when.
