Lagos Assembly Crisis: Obasa Embarks On Damage Control, Reinstate Suspended Lawmakers

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has been humbled. Finally, after saying never, Obasa has succumbed to pressure from a faction in the House, which was bent on puncturing his pride by challenging his alleged autocratic manner of running the house. They were also bent ob exposing  his alleged abuse of power, financial misappropriation and recklessness. But after what many termed his gra-gra, to the effect that he would never go back on tbe suspension of a couple of them, Speaker Obasi has made an about-turn.

He has not only lifted the suspension, he has also  reinstated given them new positions with immediate effect.

In an Internal memo through the Clerk of the House, Azeez Sanni, on Friday, he  directed the aggrieved members to take up new portfolios.

The former Deputy Majority Leader, Hon Olumuyiwa Jimoh, has been assigned to chair the Committee on Central Business District while his counterpart who was removed as Chief Whip, Honourable Rotimi Abiru, is now the Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Committee.

Also, Hon Moshood Oshun, who was removed from the Chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (State), has been named Chairman of Committee on Legislative Compliance while Hon Nurudeen Saka-Solaja is now the Chairman of PAC (State).

Hon Kazeem Adewale Raheem is now the Chairman of Establishments, Training and Pensions from his earlier position of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations swapping office with Hon Rasheed Makinde while Hon (Mrs.) Mojisola Alli-Macaulay replaces Hon (Mrs) Mojisola Miranda as Chairman of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Committee. Mrs Miranda is now the Chief Whip.

It would be recalled that a Group, Human Rights Monitoring Agenda, HURMA, through its Director General, Comrade Buna Isiak Olaitan, had called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate the Speaker over the Finances of the state.  The group, also, asked  him to step down from office as Speaker, until after the ongoing investigation.
