The Anambra State Chapter of the Labour Party, LP, on Thursday June 3, 2025, threw its weight behind the recent coalition efforts by some political forces in the country.
The endorsement is, however, coming on the heels of the 48 hours dateline issued by the Julius Abure-led faction of the party for Peter Obi, the LP Presidential candidate in 2023 general elections, to resign his membership over his participation in the alliance.
The Source reports that some political forces drawn from across opposition parties on Wednesday July 3, in Abuja, formally unveiled the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as their official Coalition platform ahead of the 2027 polls.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its Interim chairman, Peter Okoye, the Anambra LP described the Coalition as being in tandem with the party’s broader objectives and aspirations.
According to the party, the Coalition being promoted at the national level with the active collaboration of Obi, is a strategic alignment in pursuit of LP’s long term goals aimed principally at deepening democracy and people-centred governance.
“This strategic collaboration is in line with the broader goals and aspirations of the Labour Party to deepen democracy, promote good governance, and deliver people -oriented leadership.
“We, therefore, urge all members, supporters and stakeholders of the Labour Party in Anambra State to key into this important development.
“Peter Obi’s participation in the Coalition reflects the seriousness and prospects of this new political realignment.
“Together, we will continue to build a formidable force that reflects the will and interests of the Nigerian people, especially, the hardworking, and enterprising citizens of Anambra state”, the statement read in part.
The party assured that further developments regarding the Coalition will be communicated to members and supporters as they unfold.
