Almost one year after, the Anambra State Police Command, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, announced the arrest of the prime suspect and leader of a notorious criminal syndicate behind the abduction and gruesome murder of Anambra State Lawmaker, Hon Justice Azuka.
The suspect, 26 year old Ugochukwu Uzor, according to the Police was on Monday, December 8, 2025, intercepted during an intelligence-driven and coordinated operation by operatives in Iyowa Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Council of the State.
The Source reports that late Hon Azuka that represented Onitsha North 1 Constituency at the Anambra’ state House of Assembly was on December 24, 2024 kidnapped on his way home .
His decomposing remains were unfortunately recovered close to the Second Niger Bridge ,a few weeks after his abduction.
A statement from the Police Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, on Wednesday, informed that Uzor was seized after a fierce gun battle with Police personnel.
A Locally made Beretta pistol and eleven rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspect , according to the police.
The police authorities described Uzor as the leader of several criminal syndicates involved in armed robbery, vehicle snatching , kidnapping and other criminal activities within Anambra’ state and neighborhouring states
Upon interrogation, Uzor confessed to playing a role in the abduction and subsequent murder of Hon Azuka, the police spokesperson noted .
According to the Police,the prime suspect, as at the time of his arrest ,had on some parts of his body distinctive tattoos with different inscriptions such as ” No Forgiveness” ,No Mercy”, a development which operatives pointed to as a clear testimonial to his ruthless and criminal tendencies.
This is as Ikenga described Uzor’s apprehension as a significant breakthrough in the concerted efforts at dismantling criminal networks in Anambra’ state
The statement also assured of the Command’s commitment towards ensuring a thorough investigation of Uzor’s suspected criminal syndicates with a view to arresting other members still at large.
