Following Tuesday’s January, 23, 2024, open skirmishes that erupted in the Gaya area and some remote parts of Kano State between supporters of the two rival political parties- the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP and All Progressives Congress, APC, leaders of the warring political platforms have sued for peace and restraint. Police authorities have, also, taken some proactive measures to prevent the situation from escalating.

The Source news magazine reports that the supporters of the two parties had, in the early hours of Tuesday, January 23, engaged in an open confrontation in Gaya Local Council of the State, a development which forced the State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammad Husseini Gumel, to embark on a trouble shooting mission  to the affected area .

The Source gathered that since the Supreme Court  ruling penultimate week, which  declared NNPP’s  Abba Kabir Yusuf as the duly elected Governor of Kano, ahead of his APC contender, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, their supporters, mostly in the rural areas have been engaging in sporadic clashes

The clashes are believed to have stemmed from alleged persistent derision of APC supporters and their gubernatorial flagbearer Dr Gawuna by NNPP followers over their loss at the supreme court .
