The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, will today, hear the appeal filled by Governor Abba Yusuf against his removal by the Kano state election petition tribunal.
Governor Yusuf of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, was removed from office on September 20, 2023, by the tribunal which also declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC winner of the March governorship election.
The governor had appealed the tribunal’s verdict, his appeal, contained in a notice with case no CA/KN/EP/GOV/KAN/34/2023 will be heard today by the appellate court.
A three-man panel, led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, had two months ago nullified Yusuf’s election after declaring invalid 165,663 from the votes he secured.
The governor was declared winner of the March 18 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, after scoring 1,019,602 votes against his opponent, Gawuna, who secured 890,705 votes.
