The Kano State Government has assured that Children with Disabilities CWD will be guaranteed access to qualitative education, and conducive learning environment across the state .
This is even as the “Hope For Village Child Foundation” has called on the State authorities to enhance and implement the Disability Act of 2018 to ensure access to safe and quality education of all children without discrimination and exclusion .
The Kano State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa who spoke on behalf of the Kano state Government on Wednesday March 20 2024, while receiving in audience officials of Hope For Village Child Foundation, said that since mounting the saddle ,Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has taken practical and genuine steps to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning for children with disabilities ,with a view to making them feel comfortable at school.
Besides, Alhaji Doguwa noted that extra measures have been instituted to ensure that all children with disabilities have unhindered access to safe and quality education, without discrimination and exclusion.
“You see ,when you are talking about improving school environment especially that of pupils/ students with disabilities ,it is something that every right thinking human being would love to participate and give his/her own contributions .
“The efforts we have made since coming on board the administration of kano ,in terms of provisions of teaching aids to the schools of children with disabilities ,no government has done that before” Doguwa stated.
According to the State Commissioner of Education,Governor Yusuf’s administration has performed beyond expectations in terms of inclusion of all children ,through the provisions of Modern Architectural designs needed for effective teaching and learning for children with disabilities.
Such architectural designs that ensure conducive learning environment for children with disabilities, Doguwa emphasised are presently ongoing in Yargaya and other places across the state,adding that the kano state Government will not relent in its determination to engage all relevant Development Partners in promoting education.
The Programme Manager of ” Hope For Village Child Education” a body committed to the advocacy for the provision of equal opportunities for children in the education system irrespective of status, Ola Seyi Ayodele said they in kano to appreciate the state government for its efforts in revamping the education sector .
The Group, however, appealed for some modifications and reasonable adjustments of schools in the state to identify and support children with disabilities particularly slow learners.
