Kaduna State Government has claimed that its Commissioner for Information, Professor Muhammad Sani Bello, was sacked by Governor Uba Sani contrary to his claims that he resigned voluntarily.
But contrary to Government’s position, Prof Bello said he voluntarily resigned as Kaduna State’s Commissioner for Information and member of the State Executive Council.
His resignation was conveyed in a letter entitled “Notice of Voluntary Resignation” dated July 29, 2025, and addressed to the Secretary to the State Government.
In the letter, Bello stated, “With reference to letter number GH/KD/S/171 dated 27th July 2023, appointing me as Commissioner and Member of the Kaduna State Executive Council, I wish to notify you of my decision to voluntarily resign with immediate effect.”
He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve under Governor Uba Sani, first as Commissioner for Education and later as the pioneer Commissioner for Information.
But another statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibraheem Musa, disclosed that Bello was sacked by the Governor.
According to the statement, “Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has sacked the Commissioner of information, Prof Muhammad Sani-Bello, with immediate effect.
A successor, who is previously the Managing Director of Kaduna State Media Corporation, Ahmed Maiyaki, has been appointed the new Commissioner of Information.”
Sani wished Prof Sani-Bello success in his future endeavours and acknowledged the former Commissioner’s services as the pioneer Commissioner of Education.
Instructively, the Professor was Governor Sani’s Director General during the Governorship Campaign for the 2023 Election. But recently, in a move that took many by surprise, Sani, in a minor Cabinet reshuffle, removed him as the Commissioner for Education, and appointed the Commissioner for Information, a Ministry which was scrapped by Sani’s successor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Not a few people agree that Professor Bello felt let down by the ”demotion” from the Ministry of Education to a “non-existent” Ministry of Information.
