The Amaju Pinnick led Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, board has Appointed former Super Eagles Captain, Joseph Michael Yobo as the assistant to Coach Gernot Rohr.
Yobo became the New Assistant Coach to Rohr, replacing Imama Amakapabo who has been relieved of his duties following his abysmal performance during the CAF Under-23 Olympic Qualification Championship in Egypt, and the his Failure to qualify the Home Based Super Eagles for the CAF African Nations Championship.
Until the appointment as Assistant Coach to Rohr, he was a soccer pundit on SuperSport, a Cable Station owned by Multichoice, a South African owned establishment.
Yobo became the first Super Eagles player to have 100 Caps for the National team, winning and Captaining the team to the 2013 AFCON Tournament triumph in South Africa
The former Everton Football Club defender was mercurial for the National team, featuring in three FIFA World Cup Competitions (2002, 2010 and 2014), and Six AFCON tournaments (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013).
Yobo started his Professional Football Career at the Michellin Football Club in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, before traveling to Belgium, joining Standard Liege Football Club.
His outstanding performance at tje Club secured him a place in Coach Tunde Disu’s team for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Nigeria in 1999, where he played as a midfielder.
His versatility earned him a Call-Up into the National Team, winning his first Cap for the senior team in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match away to Zambia in Chingola in April 2001 and played in three FIFA World Cup.
Yobo played for Olympique Marseille Football Club in France, Standard Liege in Belgium, Everton and Norwich City Football Clubs in England, Tenerife Football Club in Spain and Fenerbahce Football Club in Turkey.
