Iyabo Obasanjo Joins APC, Completes Ward Registration

A daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, is back to active politics. Confirmation: She has joined the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Her membership of the APC took many unawares. Fiercely independent, it is not known if she consulted his father before she joined the Party.

However, a former Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Biodun Ajayi, reportedly the former First Daughter’s close ally, confirmed that Professor Obasanjo completed her e-registration at Ibogun Ward 11, Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

“I can confirm that Prof Iyabo Obasanjo completed her online registration as a member of our great party, the APC, on Tuesday at Ibogun Ward 11, in Ifo Local Government Area,” Ajayi said.

While his father was in office as President, Iyabo was of the same Party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP with him. She was at a point, the Commissioner for Health, Ogun State, under the Gbenga Daniel Administration, and also a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Born on 27 April 1967, Professor Obasanjo is an academic, and an epidemiologist.

She was married to Akeem Bello, 1999 -2003, and they have an only son, Jimi Bello.

Recall that Abba, son of Obasanjo’s Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, penultimate week, dumped the PDP and defected to the APC, shunning his father’s new Party, the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
