Iran-Israel War: No Nigerian Died Or Injured – Dabiri-Erewa

The federal government says there’s no Nigerian citizen was injured or killed during the just concluded Israel-Iran war. The 12-day war, the magazine reported, led to many lives lost on both sides of the conflict.

The devastation has left many countries, including Nigeria worried about the safety of their nationals resident in Iran. Some reports had suggested that some Nigerian citizens in the country suffered injuries.

Reacting, the Chairman of the Nigerian in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM and the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, said there were no reported cases of  injuries or fatalities involving Nigerians living the country.

According NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa in a statement released on Friday, the federal government is committed to ensuring that Nigerians living in Iran and any part of the world are safe and their welfare taken care of.

The statement was signed by Gabriel Odu of the Public Relations and Protocols Unit of NiDCOM.

Dabiri-Erewa said the federal government has provided a support system to ensure that Nigerian citizens were taken care of, and those who want to leave the country allowed to do so through an arrangement with Tehran and the Armenia government.

She said, “We remain committed to the safety and well-being of all Nigerians in the diaspora,”

“The situation in Iran underscores the need for proactive engagement and a strong support system,”

She commended the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran for its swift response to the situation and called on Nigerians abroad to register with their respective embassies to enhance communication and ensure timely assistance when necessary.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar had earlier debunked reports that Nigerian citizens domiciled in Iran had been abandoned to their fate with no help coming from home, he noted that the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran had been operational to ensure the “welfare and safety of all Nigerian nationals in Iran.”

“The ministry remains vigilant in monitoring the situation and will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard the interests of Nigerians worldwide,” the minister said.

The war has since seized after the ceasefire announced by the United State of America President Donald Trump.
