President Muhammadu Buhari’s former Minister for Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has berated the Buhari led All Progressives Congress, APC, administration, saying that it has failed woefully on its promises to address the insecurity challenges in the country, particularly in the North.
The Plateau State born Dalung who served as a Minister during Buhari’s first tenure, said that one of the major promises of the party was to address the problem of insecurity which it has failed to deliver after over five years in the saddle.
Speaking on the Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, Dalung said the APC has since lost its reputation in the eyes of Nigerians, adding that nobody will trust the party again until changes are made.
“What type of Government is this that you have to pay bandits before they allow you to go to farm? What will be the future of the North if you have to pay bandits to access your own farm?
“Now it is not easy for one to travel in the North. The security challenges have put doubts and fear in many people. For you to travel now you have to pray and fast for your safe return,” he said.
He added that this had never happened in the history of the country.
“We struggled for this Government to come to power but it could not satisfy our needs. We have said the truth on the past Governments and this is our government and we have to say the truth no matter what. It is our responsibility to tell our Government the truth.”
He said APC as a party is presently dwindling and that effort has to be made to rescue it from collapse, adding that “I am now an old member of the party. I’m waiting for new registration to commence so that I will register myself again.”
Dalung’s anger came amid inexplicable claims by the Minister for Information, Lai Muhammed, that security situation in the country was worse in 2015 than now, a claim many people have put a lie to.
