INEC Declares Ekiti Bye Election Inconclusive |The Source

Following violence occasioned by ballot snatching, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has suspended Saturday’s Ekiti East State Constituency one bye-election.

Three persons have been confirmed dead, with policemen and youth corps members seriously wounded.

Some gunmen, were said to have invaded voting centres and snatched ballot boxes.

INEC explained that the bye- election could no longer continue following outbreak of violence in various polling units in the LGA.

A policewoman and two others were killed by suspected political thugs.

A statement by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Tella Adeniran, stated that “the situation is such that, a conducive environment no longer exists for further electoral activity at the polling units and the Collation centers.

“In view of this development, the Commission has suspended the election forthwith.”

Meanwhile, security agents are on the trail of some of the suspected hoodlums, in connection with the violence which marred the bye election.
