“Please don’t punish the Yoruba over Tinubu’s lopsided appointments” – El-Rufai
In continuation of his new political views which have not only embarrassed his political party members, but also put them on edge, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nasir El-Rufai, has asked the Southern Zone of Nigeria to vote President Bola Tinubu out in 2027.
President Tinubu is a Southerner of Yoruba origin.
El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, and the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, has had an untidy relationship with his Party, and by extention, President Bola Tinubu, since the Senate rejected to clear him for a Ministerial appointment after he was nominated by Tinubu.
But in an interview on Monday with Arise Television’s Charles Aniagolu, El-Rufai said he was not rejected by the Senate. He said what happened was that Tinubu, who, allegedly, publicly begged him to join his Government, and told him he (El-Rufai), would man the Ministry of Power, suddenly changed his mind and ordered the Senate not to clear him during screening.
In a view that is most likely to anger his Party El-Rufai chided the South for the choice it made during the 2023 Presidential Election.

In 2023 the South insisted that it was its turn to occupy the Presidential seat after eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari, a Northerner.
El-Rufai was one of those who, in his Party’s choice of a Candidate, insisted on a Southern Candidate for what he called justice and equity.
According to El-Rufai, the Southerners were given an opportunity in 2023, but they chose Tinubu.
What to do in 2027: vote him out, El-Rufai advised if he has not done well for you and the country. He clearly asked the South to deny President Tinubu a second term in office.
El-Rufai: “As a private citizen, I can afford to reckless and say: you know what? We gave the Southerners their chance. They gave us Tinubu. Has he done well? If he hasn’t done well, by 2027, let’s vote him out.”
El-Rufai, also, spoke on what many see as Tinubu’s lopsided appointments.
Said he: “President Tinubu is appointing his own boys, not because they’re Yoruba. Most of his appointments do not reasonably cover the South-west. People should stop confusing the two. The appointments are not balanced. But it’s not a Yoruba thing. Please, don’t punish the Yoruba.”
For the records, El-Rufai was a former Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, under the President Olusegun Obasanjo PDP Government. He later, under tye President Goodluck Jonathan’s Government, defected to the APC which foundation member he is. But now, things seem to have fallen apart between him and the APC.
