Hell, accompanied by terror and death, literally descended on Ehime Mbano on Wednesday, 9th October, 2024, when gunmen invaded an Army Facility. It is not known how many fatalities were recorded, if any, but it was like a war zone. Reports, however, insist there were fatalities.

Gunshots rained, deafening the ears. Smoke spiraled and rose to high heavens. Vehicles were set ablaze, and gunmen kept taunting the soldiers, asking them to come out.

There are two versions of exactly what happened.

The first version said that the gunmen, allegedly, men of the Biafra Liberation Army under Finland-based Simon Ekpa, ambushed the soldiers and opened fire. It was not revealed from where the soldiers were coming from or going to, or what time of the day it was – night or day.

But the second version from a video trending on Whatsaap platform, watched by this medium tell a different story.

In the video, the gunmen invaded a military facility. They were seen invading it and narrating their movement. They identified themselves as “angels”, and the place they invaded as an army camp. One of them was running the commentary.

“Angels are here, angels are here. This is Ehime Mbano. It was a Local Government,  they turned it to Army camp. Angels are here. If una get strength make una come. Nigerian Army, if una get strength make una come. This is October month. Today is October 8th.

“Make una come. We are here. This is Biafra land. Hey, stay there. Today is October. And we are here for October Movement.

“They say dey no dey fear. Let them come. We are burning down their vehicles. This is our land. This is Biafra land. Ehime Mbano is on fire.”

Apparently, the scene, as was seen in the video, did not look like an ambush. It looked like an Army Camp, especially, with the number of vehicles and buildings set ablaze. What is not known, however, is if there were soldiers within at the time of the invasion. But it seems like the operation took place in the night.

The Ekpa Group, identified as Autopilots, a breakaway from the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, had declared the month of October, “October Movement”, and had especially, declared October 21 and 22, the day they would launch their movement.

This is the second time Ehime Mbano will be under serious attack by gunmen within two weeks. During the first attack, the multi-billion Naira National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, Study Centre and the country homes of Senator Frank Ibezim and his brother, Mike,  were torched. No arrests have been made.

In the instant case, neither the Police nor the Army has reacted.
