Ilorin Loses Chief Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Saliu

Ilorin, Kwara State, has lost its Chief Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Saliu.

He passed on Monday at the age of 75, thus bringing to an end a long and impactful era of religious leadership in the Ilorin Emirate.

The late Chief Imam was highly respected because he had a deep knowledge of Islam. He was also full of humility, and committed to the spiritual and moral guidance of the community.

He was born in Ilorin in 1950, and  dedicated his life to Islamic scholarship and service.

He became the 12th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate in 1983 and held the position for over 40 years. In those years, the late Chief Imam played very significant roles in strengthening Islamic institutions as well as promoting unity within the Emirate.
