The suspended Governorship Candidate of the embattled Peoples Democratic party, PDP, in the just concluded Anambra’ State Election, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, has dismissed his purported suspension by the leadership of the party as a huge joke.
This is as he stated that he does not recognize the Dr Chidi Chidebe–led State Executive Committee SEC that spearheaded the said suspension.
The Source reports that the SEC had on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, slammed a month-long suspension order on Ezenwafor, citing alleged compromise during and after the November 8 gubernatorial polls, as a major reason.
The State Chairman of the Party, Dr Chidebe who announced the suspension, at the end of the Party’s Executive Committee meeting noted that the party’s flag bearer refused to campaign ,and call for assistance from the party in the count down to the polls .
“Throughout the campaign period, the Candidate exhibited attitudes and tendencies that were not only uncooperative, but outrightly destructive to the collective interest of the party.
“After reviewing the activities of the candidate, the Committee suspended him for one month, and recommended him for further disciplinary actions to the State disciplinary committee”, Dr Chidebe stated.
But reacting to the development on Wednesday, the PDP Governorship candidate insisted that the State Executive Committee does not have the legal authority to suspend him ..
“In the first place, I do not recognize Chidebe and his group as the leadership of the party in Anambra’ state .
“I am the leader of the PDP in Anambra State. They (the state executive committee members) do not have the powers to suspend me.
“PDP has an Administrative Secretary appointed by the National Executive Committee NEC”, Ezenwafor noted.
Responding to the allegations of compromise and abysmal performance, Ezenwafor stated that he formally withdrew from the race, hours before the commencement of voting.
“I withdrew from the race hours before the election because I lacked the capacity to run on it . I actually tried to save the party, but nobody was willing to take over the baton” he noted.
