Former Minister for State, Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipre Sylva, has said he would make contacts with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on arrival in Nigeria.
Sylva was, a few days ago, declared wanted by the EFCC over an alleged diversion of $15m public funds meant for the construction of an Oil Refinery.
Before then, his name had been linked to an alleged but vehemently, for now, denied by the Defence Headquarters, of a coup plot to sack the Government of President Bola Tinubu.
While Sylva has strongly denied any link to a Coup plot to topple the Tinubu Government which, he said, is politically motivated, he said he is angry over his being declared wanted by the EFCC.
Julius Bokoru, his Spokesperson, attributed this, also, to politics, and insists that his principal will make contacts with the EFCC on arrival. For now, he said, Sylva is in the United Kingdom on medicals.
Bokoru explained that the refinery project was above board and has “traceable documentation”.
His words: “The refinery project in question is a legitimate, transparent, and verifiable undertaking.”
He wondered why the EFCC has not been in touch with Sylva.
“Declaring him wanted on social media was intended to “inflame public sentiment”, he noted.
But the EFCC explained that the “wanted notice” stemmed from a warrant issued by a High Court in Lagos.
Sylva, a former Governor of Bayelsa State, 2007-2012, was the Minister of State under the late President Muhammadu Buhari Government.
