Farouk Adamu Aliyu, a former Federal House of Representatives member, said Tuesday morning that, as a Lawmaker, at the time of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Government, he was given the sum of N250m to support the Third Term Project of the former President.

The allegation was very strong, that as Obasanjo’s  constitutional second,  and final term was getting to an end, the former President desired to get a third term through the National Assembly. But it was roundly rejected by a majority of the members, fully supported by a number of people outside the NASS, including his then   Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

At the time, the House of Representatives Speaker, Ghali Na’Abba,  had vehemently stood against it and, one day, displayed money, stacked in Ghana-Must-Go Bags, allegedly, given to members to support the project.

But Obasanjo always denied that there was any such move, from him, for a third term in office, insisting that there was nothing like that.

However, Hon Aliyu, speaking on a Channels Television interview segment Tuesday morning, revealed that  his own share of the money was part of the billions displayed in the House, as evidence.

Aliyu said Lawmakers were bribed with between N50m, each, upwards to support the project, but said that his was N250million.

Aliyu, also slammed those condemning the invitation, from the Directorate of State Services, (DSS), to former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Dr Obodiah Mailafia over his interview with a Radio Station.

Dr Mailafia had, in the interview, alleged among other serious issues, that a serving Northern Governor is a Commander of the insurgent group, Boko Haram. He had attributed his souce to the sect’s Commanders whom, he claimed, spoke to him. But he has since been denying the source he had claimed, telling the DSS, he got the information from traders in the market, and admitting he ought to have collaborated his source before going public.

But Aliyu, slamming those condemning his invitation said “Dr Mailafia lied. Are you saying he should not be invited to prove his allegations, and confirm his source? In which country in the world does that happen?”

Speaking on the background of Obasanjo’s recent submission that Nigeria has become a basket case, and was sliding  into a failed State, and had also become divisive, the former Lawmaker accused the former President of being envious of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said instead of going public with his continuous public criticisms of the Buhari Government, he ought to have gone to speak to the President one on one, since he has an unfettered access to Buhari.

Aliyu: “He is envious that Buhari is doing the things he couldn’t do during his tenure as President. Buhari is against third term. He was for it, and bribed lawmakers to get it. Personally, I was given N250 million to support the project. Others were also given. Obasanjo should not talk of corruption. The difference is clear. Buhari has not illegally removed any Governor like he did, through illegal impeachments, or sent soldiers to go and sack communities like he did in Odi, and  Zaki Biam.”

Obasanjo’s recent statement on the state of the state of the Nation has drawn both commendation  and condemnation from across the country.
