Hunger: Civil Servants, Not All Nigerians Qualified To Buy Subsidized FG Rice

More facts are emerging on the subsidised rice the federal government said have been released to cushion  the effects of hunger in the country.

Some Nigerians have taken over major cities in the country to protest the current economic hardship in the country.

Last week, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration disclosed that it has thousands of bags of 50kg rice to be sold to Nigerians for N40,000 per bag.

The current market price is between N75,000 and N80, 000 per 50kg bag.

According to a letter  from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, signed by the Director of Human Resources, Jaiyesimi Abimbola, civil servants were directed to complete a google form, made available on the OHCSF website to be eligible to purchase the bags of rice at the designated price.

The letter said the Office of the Heda of Service, OHF is working with the co-ordinating workers union body, the Joint Union Council to make the process seamless.

The letter said, “As part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate the current food crisis in the country and its effects on the general population, I am directed to inform you that 50kg bags of rice will be sold at a subsidised rate of N40,000 only per bag to interested public servants in Abuja.

“For effective implementation, all interested staff are required to complete a Google form on the OHCSF website, https://www.ohcsf.gov.ng, print, and submit same to the Director, HR, for endorsement.

“Payment for and distribution of the rice will be coordinated by designated officials while the chairman, Joint Union Council of the Ministry is required to serve as an observer during the period of the exercise for the purpose of transparency.

“I am to add that each staff is only entitled to purchase one bag. Two or more staff may also jointly pay for a bag for sharing among themselves.

“Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of staff in your respective Departments/Units for information and guidance.”

Lst week, the Federal Government said that it had dispatched 20 trucks of rice to each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to cushion the effects of hunger in the country.
