The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has given insight to the collapse of a building in Vidaz Estate, located in the Sabon Lugbe extension of Abuja.

Initial investigations indicate that the building had previously been demolished by FCT authority due to its presence on illegally acquired land.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the collapse was triggered when scavengers tampered with the remnants of the structure in search of scrap metal.

“A total of five individuals were successfully rescued from the debris, and there were no reported fatalities.”

The FCT Police Command urged the public to avoid demolished structures and construction sites for safety and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
