The House of Representatives has called for the decentralization of the operations of the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State.
At plenary on Thursday, June 3, 2025, the House urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the Governing Council of the Academy to give effect to the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy Act, of 2021 which among other things, stipulates a multi-Campus structure for the institution.
Adopting a motion sponsored by Kalejaiye Adeboye, APC Lagos, the green chamber of the National Assembly called for the establishment of campuses of the Academy in each of the six geo-political Zones of the country.
The House tasked the Federal Government on the urgent need of aligning the operations of the Academy with the 2021 Act by way of expanding it to other Zones.
To this end, the Federal law makers asked the Governing Council of the institution to commence immediate steps toward ensuring the implementation of the Act by way of transforming the Academy into a multi-Campus institution.
The House also called on the Governing Council to liaise with the National Universities Commission, NUC, to fast track the establishment of more campuses of the Academy.
According to the legislators, such a measure will enhance police training, security and development, as well as increase the institution’s reach and impact.
To underscore their seriousness, the law makers mandated the House Committees on Police Institutions, Police Affairs University, Education and Appropriation to work in concert with the Governing Council to ensure that all necessary machineries are put in motion to achieve the expansion of the Academy.
