Handsome Nollywood Actor, Leo Mezie Dies; Nigerians Call For Prayer Session For Industry

In less than a week, the Nigeria Movie Industry, Nollywood, has lost two of its finest acts.

First, it was veteran Actor, Gbenga Richards who died five days ago. On Saturday, May 16, 2022, the industry has lost one of its most handsome actors,  Leonard Onyemachi Chimezie, popularly known as Leo Mezie, to death.

The 46-Year old actor had been battling with Kidney disease for years, and had a Kidney Transplant four years ago and another one last week. But he suddenly began suffering some complications that led to his death on Saturday, May 14th, 2022.

The Late actor had been in and out of hospital before finally giving up the ghost.

Breaking the news of his demise on Social Media on Monday, May 16, as his death was concealed,  was fellow Nollywood Actress, Chioma Toplis.

Toplis wrote on her Instagram Page:  “Actor Leo Mezie is dead. He died on Saturday in Abuja while recovering from a kidney transplant. His corpse has been moved to Umuahia his hometown. RIP Leo.”

The death of Mezie has brought to four, the number of Nollywood acts that have died in the month of May.

First it was Chinedu Bernard; followed by David Osagie and Gbenga Richards.

This has prompted reactions from Nigerians who say  there is need for a prayer session to avert the bad occurrences and death that have taken the industry by storm.

Oluwakemi Akao, a fan of the industry tearfully lamented that it was one death too many, urging members of the industry to come together and pray against the death rocking it.

Also, Chinonso Akwuegbu called on Nigerians to pray for the industry as it was a trying time for the make- believe industry.
