Former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Seriake Dickson, and his family, escaped attack when gun men invaded his country home in Toru Orua, Sagbama LGA, midnight, Wednesday.
The former Governor, who is the PDP candidate for the Bayelsa West Senatorial Bye-election, scheduled for December 5, was in Abuja, while his wife, former First Lady, was in Yenegoa.
The gunmen who apparently came by speed boat, through the Forcados River, were, however, unsuccessful, as they were repelled by a team of Policemen, alerted of their presence.
However, one of the Policemen, an Inspector, was killed during the shoot-out between the Police team and the hoodlums.
A source told this magazine that the gunmen probably knew of the absence of the former Governor, and took advantage of it to raid his home.
Dickson, himself, a former Police Officer, before he opted for law, and later, politics, in mourning the sad death of the Inspector, has condoled with the Inspector’s family, the Commissioner of Police, Officers and Men of the Bayelsa State Police Command, and the Inspector General of Police.
This is the second time the home of a high profile Bayelsa son will be invaded by gunmen within one year.
The first was the country home of former President Goodluck Jonathan, during which a Policeman was also killed.
