The indifference of Monarchs to the call for Yoruba Autonomy has been frowned at by the Yoruba National Youth Group. The Group has, therefore, appealed to Traditional Rulers in the South West not to abandon the quest for Yoruba Nation autonomy.

The Youths expressed disappointment with certain monarchs they believe are undermining Yoruba interests.

In a letter dated October 30, 2024, titled “A Letter of Honour and Respect to All Yoruba Obas”, the group conveyed its concerns.

The letter was signed by Yoruba National Youth Leader in the Diaspora, Prophet Ayodele Ologunloluwa, and Homebased Leader, Comrade Oyegunle Oluwamayowa Omotoyole.

The group advised Monarchs to consider the collective will of the Yoruba people, and stressed the importance of resilience in the face of pressure. They cautioned that disregarding the people’s aspirations could create a rift between Yoruba leaders, rulers, and the general population, potentially leading to division and unrest.

“We, Yoruba youths, oppose any attempt to re-amalgamate Nigeria.

“The Yoruba self-determination struggle is firmly on course, progressing toward its goal.

“Today, the Yoruba people stand at a pivotal moment. The choices made now will reverberate for generations. Inheritors of Yoruba honor must act with bravery, wisdom, loyalty, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of all Yoruba people.”

It called upon Yoruba Monarchs to make their positions clear within seven days. “Any Oba who fails to publicly declare support for our cause will be considered an enemy of the Yoruba people, land, heritage, prosperity, and future.”

It declared: “We are resolute that our Yoruba Nation shall thrive and reclaim its prosperity and strength. God Almighty has destined our Yoruba Nation to be great, and we, the youth, will not allow the weaknesses of any leaders to diminish this God-given potential.”

The Yoruba National Youth affirmed their commitment, stating, “God made our Yoruba Nation powerful and talented. No one will keep our nation suppressed any longer. There can be no compromise on this.”
