Media Group, International Press Centre, IPC, has demanded a thorough investigation into the sudden disappearance of Vanguard Newspaper Reporter, Tordue Salem, attached to the House of Representatives in Abuja, the nation’s Capital.
Salem has been declared missing since Wednesday, 13th October, 2021. He was last sighted within the premises of Total Filling Station, opposite the FCT, Abuja Police headquarters.
As at today, Monday, October 18th, 2021, the Editor of Vanguard Newspaper, Eze Anaba confirmed that Salem was yet to be seen.
Following this development, IPC’s Executive Director, Lanre Arogundade, in a statement, said that Salem’s disappearance is disconcerting and the search for him should be accorded high priority by the Police and other Security agencies.
The former Lagos State Nigeria Union of Journalist Chairman, said, “In a country where the rights of Journalists and mMedia professionals are continuously violated, concerted efforts by relevant stakeholders are necessary to ensure that Mr. Salem returns to his family and beat safely, and that the safety of other journalists and media professionals is guaranteed”, he added.
Arogundade, therefore, appealed to the Government and the security agencies to do all within their powers to locate the missing Journalist.
