Gov Yusuf Creates Additional Emirate Councils In Kano

The Kano state Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, signed into law, the Kano State  Emirate Council Establishment  Bill 2024 .

The bill makes provision for the creation of three new Second class Emirates in the State.

This is coming at a time the dust raised by the deposition of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero and four others, and the subsequent enthronement of Muhammad Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano on the strength of the 2024 Emirates bill passed by the House of Assembly and signed in to law by Governor Yusuf is yet to settle .

The three second class Emirates are for Gaya, Rano, and Karaye, among which their First Class Emirs were dethroned on May 23, together with Emir Bayero of Kano.

Instructively, the bill was passed same Tuesday July 16 2024 by the state House of Assembly.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Governor Yusuf lauded the Lawmakers for performing yet another constitutional duty in the service of Kano State.

“The creation of these Emirates would indeed revive the cultural heritage and development in the areas and by extension in the State.

“Government believes in the major role of Traditional Institutions in fostering peace and development .” the Governor stated.

He appreciated the efforts of the House led by Speaker Ismail Falgore for being sensitive and responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of the teeming kano populace .

The Kano State Governor assured that in less than no time Emirs will be appointed for the designated Emirates, while also enjoining the would-be Emirs to create an enabling environment for peace and development to thrive.

The Speaker in his remarks noted that the creation of the three new Emirates is in the overall interests of the people .

He insisted that the development will serve to bring Government closer to the people.
