Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has fulfilled his promise to honour a female graduate that has just completed her national youth Corps Service and returned to her village in Cross River State to appreciate her father.
The Governor had promised to build a three bedroom apartment for the father of the lady for his determination to sponsor his daughter to university.
The lady, in a viral video decorated her father with her NYSC uniform and gave him a salute on her return to the village after her service year.
Governor Eno explained that his administration decided to build a three-bedroom house for the parents of the female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who returned to her parents’ thatch house to thank her dad for sacrificing a lot to send her to school.
Eno pointed out that he was touched by the video clip showing the unidentified NYSC member returning home to praise her dad for choosing to live in a thatch house while spending his money to train her in school.
The NYSC member and her parents are from Cross River State, which shares a boundary with Akwa Ibom State.
A team from the Akwa Ibom State Government had visited the family in Cross River to identify them and begin building a house for them.
According to the Governor, “the moral lesson behind what that young woman did is for her to go back to that (thatch) house and make her father proud.”
The Governor stated that his gesture was also to encourage girl-child education and to encourage people that the man chose well.
”What moved us was that the father decided to sponsor her girl-child to University rather than building a house in the village. That girl today has brought back the house.
“The moral lesson we learnt in what that young woman did is that not all of these young persons will be proud to take the friends to the village. For this girl to be so proud to go back to that house and make the father proud, we thought we should honour her.”
