Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference report.
The PDP chieftain said President Tinubu must do this to honour the memory of Pa Edwin Clark and Ayo Adebanjo, two elder statesmen and democratic activists who died early this year.
Clark, in his lifetime was the leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF while Adebanjo was the Leader of Afenifere, a Yoruba social cultural group.
The statesmen were for decades key members of the nation’s democratic struggles.
The two elder statesmen were also members of the National Conference set up by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014, to recommend for the administration key areas in the Constitution to be amended.
Speaking at his Lagos residence on Friday, Chief George urged President Tinubu to “revisit” the Conference report with a view to implementing it’s key recommendations.
He said the report should be made public for Nigerians for Nigerians to make suggestions, saying its implementation is key to enshrining peace in the country.
According to him, “it would be good if the report of the conference was revisited and the necessary recommendations implemented.
“Let the report be released so that all Nigerians can see what was discussed and push for implementation. That is when we can be at peace.”
Not a few Nigerians have blamed the Jonathan administration, and succeeding administration of Muhammadu Buhari for not implementing the report which they believe is capable of resolving many constitutional crisis in the country
