Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye, Ekiti, (FUOYE) Prof Abayomi Fashina, has began what can be described as an unslaught against perceived opponents among principal officers of the University.
Already, the Registrar, Mr Olatubosun Odusanya has been suspended on alleged charges bordering on untidy recruitment of staff, on the orders of the Vice Chancellor. But not a few people in the University Community dismiss the charges as trumped-up.
Although the letter of suspension handed over to Odusanya accused him of involving in illegal recruitment of workers, but there are more to it as investigations revealed.
Prof Fashina was Deputy VC during the immediate tenure of Prof Kayode Soremekun while the suspended Registrar was in the office of the ex-VC as administrative secretary.
Odusanya was one of the most powerful figures behind the former VC during which he used the office to work against the interest of some of the University staff, including the incumbent VC.
During the process of appointing a new VC, Odusanya was fingered as one of the Principal Officers that were opposed to the emergence of Prof Fashina.
The new VC did not hide his mission as he, immediately, after assuming office, set up Committees to review some decisions of his predecessor, and even stopped payment of some of his outstanding allowances.
There are indications that one or more Principal officers are on their way out of the institution as the VC is set to replace them with subordinates perceived to be loyal.
Special Adviser on Media to the VC, Mr Wole Balogun, who was brought in to take over the job of the University Director of Information, one of the appointees of the former VC, confirmed that Mr Adebowale has been suspended as Registrar.
His suspension letter reads in part, “You would please note that consequent upon the consideration of the report of the Committee on the review of appointments made in the University from August 1, 2020, to February 2021 by Council, you were recently queried via our memo Ref. No: FUOYE/VC/CD/007 dated 6th April 2021, for the act of misconduct in the appointments.
“The staff Disciplinary Committee which was constituted by Council has considered your written representation and found it unacceptable to exculpate you from the act of misconduct.
“In line with the Regulations Governing the Conditions of Service of Senior Staff on CONTIS 06 and the above in the University, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, on behalf of Council, has directed that your appointment be suspended from the University with half salary, with immediate effect, pending the determination of the case against you.”
Odusanya in his reaction to the present development simply said “I have been given the letter. I received it today when I got to the office and I have no further comment.”
