Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Friday evening, melted hearts when he dedicated an award he won to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. “My loudness today is because of him”, the Governor said. Wike is his predecessor in office.
Fubara spoke when he received the Man of the Year Award from Telegraph Newspaper which Publisher is Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Acknowledging, and appreciating, Wike for discovering him and making him the Governor of Rivers State, Fubara said: “I do not care how you interpret it or misinterpret it. I also dedicate this award to somebody who also discovered me, not minding the situation – the Honourable Minister of the FCT, my oga, Nyesom Wike.
“Without him, I wouldn’t be standing here as governor. He discovered me and it’s a discovery that gave me this loudness. Thank you for everything.”
The Governor also dedicated his award to the people of Rivers State all of whom he acknowledged for
their support, and maturity.
His words:
“I also dedicate this award to the people of Rivers State that have shown support, quietness and maturity that has brought us this far.”
Fubara and his political godfather, Wike, have been locked in political disagreement since 2023, a situation which brought Rivers State to its knees. It resulted in the declaration of a State of Emergency in the State for six months, during which time the Governor, Deputy, members of the House of Assembly and political appointees were suspended. It also resulted, two times, in impeachment attempts against the Governor and Deputy.
Last week, however, President Bola Tinubu intervened and patched up some semblance of peace. Wike has promised that peace has returned to the State, but with a proviso – that everybody (read Fubara) keeps to the admonition given by the President.
