Four new cases of covid 19 has been identified in Lagos by health authorities. Although details of this are still sketchy, it has increased the number of cases reported in Lagos. All cases in Nigeria have been reported Negative, even when they were initially reported positive..
Meanwhile, the unnamed index case, who authorities say is an Italian, has recovered, testing negative to covid 19. He was said to have brought the disease with him when he came back from Italy. Identified as a staff of Lafarge Construction Company, he traveled to Abeokuta where he met his workers. On arrival to Lagos he developed symptoms and was quarantined at Yaba infectious disease hospital.
The official reason given for his being unnamed is patient confidentiality. but critics argue that when even the Wife of the president of Canada could be named, the reason falls flat on its face.
Lagos state commissioner for health, Professor Akin Abayomi said the index case has to wait for another confirmatory test to be released.
Meanwhile, the American Food and Drug Agency has approved the use of Chloroquin, an anti malaria drug for the treatment of the disease. This was announced by President Donald Trump Thursday at a press briefing. He said that Chloroquine, a drug also used to treat severe arthritis, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration to test as a COVID-19 treatment.
