The gas cylinders she shared to women in her Senatorial Zone, Anambra North, could not save Mrs Ebere Obiano, wife of the former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, from a humiliating defeat at the Senatorial Elections held nationwide on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Her husband’s status as the immediate past Governor of the State, which Party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, controls the State, could not save her.

He was so sure it would come to pass, especially, as he was instrumental to the victory of APGA’s Governor Charles Soludo. Perhaps, he expected a little push from the Governor.

But on Saturday, every expectation turned awry.

Ebere Obiano was given a humiliating defeat. She contested against incumbent Senator Stella Oduah, PDP, and Tony Nwoye, Labour Party.

The Peter Obi- effect in the State and nationwide swept both Oduah and Obiano away.

In addition to the Obi-effect, not a few people are of the opinion that her physical confrontation with Iyom Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, wife of the late Igbo leader, Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, on the day of Soludo’s inauguration as Governor, did not help her.
