Force Investigating Policemen ‘Attack’ On Man In Lagos- Adejobi

The Nigerian Police Force, NPF, has reacted to the viral video of some policemen brutalising a resident in Lagos.

The video of the assault was shared on Tuesday by an X user who identifies as PIDCOM, claiming the officers carried out the act around Jogunosimi street, in Alausa.

The social media user had called on the NPF to take an action against the  policemen involved in the incident.

PIDCOM said “Police #PoliceNG officers from the Lagos State police command were caught on camera assaulting an innocent man around Jogunosimi street, in Alausa Lagos this afternoon.“Sadly, the brutality and lawlessness has taken another dimension.  #BenHundeyin #Princemoye1”

Since the video was made public, not a few Nigerians have called on the NPF to ensure that the policemen involved are fished out and punished.

According to those who spoke on the issue, such act is capable of fueling another violent protest against the Force in the country.

Reacting, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, condemned the physical assault of  the yet-to-be-identified man by the policemen, saying the Force is currently investigating the incident.

Adejobi said, “This is not acceptable. The matter has been referred to Lagos Command for investigation. The PPRO logos, #BenHundeyin, has been directed to address the matter and update the public on the fact of the case. Thanks. #BenHundeyin, #PoliceNG, #LagosPoliceNG”

In October 2020, many youths took part in the ENDSARS protest to demand the scrapping of the the Special Anti- Robbery Squad, SARS, an elite unit in the NPF accused of brutality in the country.

The unit had since been scrapped by the federal government.
